RANT: Dressing to Impress vs. Dressing for Yourself

DRESSING TO IMPRESS

In my opinion, some women are tempted to spend money on designer clothes, accessories, shoes and handbags because of the status it gives off. Because of the inclusiveness it brings as well as the exclusivity. To be looked at by others and perceived as someone with a certain value, in a certain circle and with a certain amount of power.

DRESSING FOR QUALITY

On the other hand, some women just want exceptional quality items that will last decades. They have the financial means to do so and have every right to spend their own money as they please. I can relate to both as I’ve definitely spent a pretty penny on designer accessories. I’m all on board with treating yourself every once in a while.

THE POINT

Dressing in head to toe designer straight off the runway can be seen as an ego boost and for some, presentation equals acceptance. But on the road to self-confidence and being authentic in fashion, I believe it’s important to find that balance. To treat yourself when it’s deserved but also to really determine if that Gucci belt that everyone and their mother already own is really worth it. Never make a purchase that will put you at risk of paying your monthly rent or groceries for that week just to fit in. You will only feel worse, and it won’t be worth it in the end.

So what’s the take-away here: IN ORDER TO FIND ULTIMATE HAPPINESS AND CONFIDENCE WITHIN ONESELF, WE CANNOT BE LIVING FOR OTHER PEOPLE’S APPROVALS.
